Perfect for those summery days, with a cooling v-neck back and front. Easy to wear as it is 'cut on the bias' meaning the weave is diagonal, making for a stretchy feeling andflattering fitted shape. No zip required either.
This unique dress is made by hand from an indigo tie-dyed cotton fabric. The pattern is handmade in a laborious process. Want to know more? click hereFrom our own label "Hempcat"
Indigo tie-dye shift dress, circle pattern in cotton
Unlike chemical dyes, indigo doesn’t bond with the fabric but adheres in miniscule particles to the weave. The dye is water soluble and therefore it will be impossible to make this fabric 100% colourfast.
However, if you follow these instructions you will be able to wear and enjoy the garment without any visible sign of dye rubbing off afterwards.
No worry, the contrast of the tie-dye will remain. Also, no shrinkage is to be expected as the fabric has been washed already.
WASHING TO GET RID OF THE EXCESS INDIGO:
- Soak in lukewarm water overnight with 7 parts water and 1 part vinegar. The acidity of the vinegar fixes the dye, so during this soak no dye will be lost. The weave will merely loosen up and allow easier rinsing out of the less well fixated indigo particles.
- Wash with a gentle detergent by hand for a short time in lukewarm water. At this point the water will turn blue. No need to worry!
- Rinse at least 10 times to get rid of the excess indigo. The water will slowly turn less blue.
- Hang to drip-dry
- Iron on cotton setting, using steam if you wish is fine.
Your garment is now ready to be enjoyed without the dye rubbing off.
For future regular washes we recommend to wash separately by hand or machine with other dark colours on a normal cotton setting.
